Scotland Euro 2024 hopes hang in the balance

Scotland's hopes of finishing second in their Euro 2024 group are hanging by a thread after they were defeated by Hungary in a crunch match.

The Scots would need to beat Hungary while Germany are beating Switzerland in order to have any chance of finishing second in the group.

Scotland were put out of the tournament by a late goal from Hungary in a match that was almost overshadowed by a serious injury to Ryan Jack.

The midfielder was stretchered off the pitch after a collision with a Hungarian player and is now in hospital undergoing tests.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke said after the match that he was "devastated" by the defeat and that his team had given it their all.

"We're all hurting right now," he said. "We came here to win this game and we didn't manage to do it. We're all very disappointed."

Scotland will now face Hungary in their final group match on Tuesday, needing a win to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
